Stray Promise

Felicia Lyons has made belonging the centrepiece of her campaign for New Atlas. With housing costs rising and more young Atlassians slipping between rooms, couches and temporary arrangements, the fast-rising candidate says the city has forgotten too many people still trying to find their footing.

Her answer is ambitious: vacant properties brought back into use, expanded emergency accommodation and a new supply of affordable homes. The slogan is simpler still: “A Home for Every Stray.” Supporters call it compassionate, practical and overdue.

Lyons says nobody should feel unwanted in New Atlas. I guess we’ll see.
